The Counselling Process
By exploring underlying issues, patterns and beliefs and by then benefiting from the awareness and self development that follows, I hope that my clients will feel empowered by therapy and their new understanding of themselves and able to manage and diminish their problems.
Although each client is unique and therapy will be influenced by individual circumstances, as a general rule the following gives an idea of the therapeutic process;
- Free 50 minute Initial Consultation in which to discuss why you would like counselling, your expectations and goals and to gain an insight into you, your history and circumstances. It is also an opportunity for you to see if you feel comfortable with your counsellor, the setting and the counselling relationship.
- From there, an outline will be agreed as to the nature and length of sessions. Sessions last for just under an hour and a minimum of 6 weekly meetings is recommended although this can be (and often is) extended depending on each individual’s unique needs. Similarly, if you decide that you don’t want to continue for any reason, then the sessions can be curtailed. Therapy is confidential, supportive and non judgemental.
